Have you ever been betrayed by your tongue

when you're feeling a tide sweep you off your feet

and you desperately want to call for help

When someone knows there's something wrong

and they ask you if you're okay

you just want to nestle in the warmth of their chest

and feel their embrace as you drench their clothes with your sorrows

but alas, the words that come out are not yours

Have you ever felt your emotions rebel against you

for holding them hostage in their prime

and they drown your insides with the tears you refuse to release

when you're walking down the road, when you're listening to your favourite music, when you're alone with your thoughts, when you're alone in a crowd

you only know to run and take cover

until the next wave hits you

Do you ever ask yourself if you really deserve it

because you don't know if you're worthy of being loved

You keep questioning if someone really loves you

because you can't stop overthinking

for how can you expect to love when you don't love yourself

you keep deflecting compliments when in fact you are craving them

to feed your never-ending cycle of self-pity

But you never change, even when you know you have to

Are you too lazy to change, or are you incapable of it?

you don't want to find out

so you continue down the same path

you've made it this far, you know you'll scrape through for a while longer.
